Modalert


 

Prescription.

Modalert is a stimulant drug prescribed to treat unusually sleepy people who have been diagnosed with:
- Shift work sleep disorder;
- Obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome;
- Narcolepsy;

You should be diagnosed with one of these sleep disorders before taking Modalert, since sleepiness can be a symptom of other medical conditions.

Used For:

Modalert is used to improve wakefulness in people who have:
- Stopped breathing while sleeping or have difficulty breathing while sleeping (obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome);
- Shift work sleep disorder;
- Excessive daytime sleepiness associated with narcolepsy;

Side Effects:

- Anxiety;
- Difficulty sleeping;
- Dizziness;
- Headache;
- Nausea;
- Nervousness;

Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but serious side effects occur:
- Hallucinations;
- Depression;
- Confusion;
- Agitation;
- Abnormal thoughts;

If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Seek immediate medical attention if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur:
- Signs of infection;
- Persistent sore throat;
- Fever;
- Fast/pounding/irregular heartbeat;
- Chest pain;

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, stop taking Modalert and seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of the following symptoms of a serious allergic reaction:
- Especially of face/tongue/throat;
- Itching/swelling;
- Rash;
- Severe dizziness;
- Skin blisters/peeling;
- Trouble breathing;

Overdose.

Patients should always adhere to the dosage schedule prescribed by their doctor.
In the case of accidental overdosage, the risk of potentially dangerous or life-threatening effects is minimal.

Symptoms of Modalert overdose might include the following:
- Tremors;
- Sleep disturbances;
- Palpitations;
- Nervousness;
- Nausea;
- Irritability;
- Insomnia;
- Diarrhea;
- Confusion;
- Anxiety;
- Agitation;
- Aggressiveness;

If you experience any of the symptoms listed above, seek medical attention.

Form.

Tablets: 100mg and 200mg.

Dose.

Modalert usually is taken at a dose of 200mg or 400mg daily, although the 400mg dose has not been shown to be more effective than the 200mg dose. Modalert can be taken with or without food.

Recommended Dose.

For ADULTS - The usual dose of Modalert is 200mg taken as a single dose in the morning.

For OLDER ADULTS - People over 65 may need a lower dose of Modalert if they have liver or kidney disease, which reduce the body's ability to metabolize Modalert.
